Dani’s story with Scripture Union at Germany and Kenya
In the age of three years I had my first contact with Scripture Union (SU) Germany. My parents and me went to a ski camp to Switzerland and I was sitting on the shoulders of the German director of Scripture Union Karl Schäfer and his college Diethelm Strauch.

In August 1976 shortly before I came to school my mum, my aunt Koni and me went to the beach mission of SU at the North Sea.

In the age of six I was working with SU by holding the songs and I was listening to a Su workers called Renate Franz while she was telling us the story about Paulossie… I met other workers of SU like Peter Gerlach and Else…

After I learnt to read my grandparents gave me my first German Bible and they bought a Bible reading plan from SU called “Guten Start” for me… later it was “Geradeaus”… and later on “Profil”…

When I was a primary child we lived only one hour far from the German SU office at Marienheide and many years I was visiting the rallies of SU. I still remind the visual aids of a famous German song „Ja, Gott hat alle Kinder lieb“ which Roswitha Weidemann was using.

When I was 14 I went to a sku camp of SU and I went skiing with two other SU workers Renate Franz and Peter Gerlach.

Meanwhile I was a Sunday School teacher and I liked to spend also my holidays for God. Therefore I went again as a voluntary of SU to help at the beach mission. Together with the SU worker Else Diehl I was leading a Bible club for teenagers.

Till now that was my last contact with SU Germany…

In February 2011 I went as a missionary to Kenya. At that time I made a practical time at a children’s home at Nakuru. I was looking for some material to teach the children about Jesus. Finally I found a Christian bookshop at Highway Tower Nakuru.

Later on I realized this bookshop belongs to SU Kenya. I spoke with one of the workers and we spoke about the relation of SU Kenya and SU Germany and I was very happy.

2013 I started a new ministry at Kapkuikui/ Bogoria an. My husband and me came at the 11th of April. On the very next day there was a Sunday School Teacher Training (12th to 14th of April) and the church leaders asked me to join this training. I was amazed when I found out that this training was held by workers of SU Kenya Peter Mathendu and Joseph Njuguna.
From the first day I had a good fellowship with them.

Peter and Joseph were teaching about Child Evangelism. When they spoke about the “Wordless Book” I asked if I were allowed to make “wordless books” with the teachers… and so I started to teach together with them…

One month later Peter and Joseph came again for a seminar for pupils to Kapkuikui. During the day they were teaching and in the brakes we were talking together.

When we got to know that nobody had prepared a place for the pupils to sleep my husband and me opened our house for them and the girls slept in our two guest rooms and the boys at our sitting room.

From time to time Peter and Joseph came to passed by when they were holding another training close to our place. We shared a lot and sometimes we met at the SU bookshop at Nakuru.

In the last month during our ministry at AIC Kapkuikui my husband Robert got the deep desire to attend a Bible school to get more theological training. But there was no qualified Bible school next to us. But we found a small Bible school at Nakuru. When we came there Robert liked the place a lot.

Then I was phoning to Peter Mathendu and I asked him if there was any possibility for me to join the ministry of SU. We met in his office and I got to know on that day that Peter is a region coordinator of Scripture Union South Rift.

In my name he was asking the National director at Nairobi and Nancy Kahuthia was inviting me for an application talk.

From the 29th of September till the 2nd of October 2014 I did a short practical time at SU Nakuru and finally the SU leadership decided to give me a work contract. Therefore from the 1st of January 2015 I will be a member of Scripture Union South Rift (Nakuru).
