History of Kenya
The history in Kenya goes back for many years, because Kenya is called “the cradle of mankind”.

The first time in history in Kenya is mentioned in 1000 AD. At the east coast their was a Arabic culture and there was a trade from Kenya till China even at that time.

From Kongo the Bantus came to Kenya, from the north the nilotics came and from northwest the Cushitics came like the Somalis. Soon the fights in the country started because of the country for farming.

1505 the Portuguese came by boat to Africa and they were conquering Mombasa.

1837 the Sultan of Oman (later: Zanzibar) were coming to Mombasa to down the people there as slaves and he founded a slave market over there.

A few years later the first missionaries came to Kenya. There were Johannes Rebmann (*1820 - 1876) and Johann Ludwig Krapf (*1810 - 1881) who were missionaries and also as Africa explorers. They came in the name of the Anglican Missionary Society of Mombasa and went to the countryside of Kenya. They discovered the Mount Kilimandscharo and also Mount Kenya.

Since 1885 Kenya was under a German protectorate. Because of the Helgoland-Zanzibar- contract 1890 Kenya became British.

Three years before (1887) the British East Africa Company forced the Sultan of Zanzibar to overtake his region at the east coast.

1895 British East African Protectorate (British-Eastafrica) was founded.

1899 Nairobi was founded as a railway camp. 1895 the Ugandan railway was build from Mombasa to Lake Victoria. Till that time Mombasa was the capital. 1905 Nairobi became the capital of British Eastafrica.

1920 British Eastafrica was declared to be a British colony called Kenya.

1905 British veterans got plots in the Highlands of Kenya to settle over there. To protect the Africans Harry Thuku founded the first Kenyan political organisation in 1919 called East African Association. But shortly after that it was forbidden by the colonial masters.

1921 the Young Kikuyu Association was founded and 1928 Jomo Kenyatta (actually Johnstone Kama Ngengi, *1891 - 1978), the son of a Kikuyu farmer, became the president of the Young Kikuyu Association.

1928 Kenya African Union (KAU) was founded and 1931 Jomo Kenyatta became the president of the KAU, too.

From October 1952 to December 1959, Kenya was under a state of emergency arising from the Mau Mau rebellion against British rule.

Jomo Kenyatta went for studies to Moskau and London. After coming back in 1946 the British called him “gang leader” of the Mau Mau rebellion and arrested him till 1960.
After getting free again Kenyatta was founding the Kenya African National Union (KANU).

The first direct elections for Africans to the Legislative Council took place in 1957 and the KANU was winning and…

… Jomo Kenyatta became the prime minister. Despite British hopes of handing power to "moderate" African rivals, it was the Kenya African National Union (KANU) of Jomo Kenyatta that formed a government shortly before Kenya became independent on 12 December 1963, on the same day forming the first Constitution of Kenya.

After Jomo Kenyattas was dieing on the 22nd of August 1978 Daniel arap Moi (*1924) became the president of Kenya.

Because 2002 in the election the "National Rainbow Coalition" (NARC) was winning, Mwai Kibaki became the new president of Kenya.

On the 4th of March 2013 there was the next election. And with 50.07 % Uhuru Kenyatta was winning and became the new president of Kenya.
